• Implement and maintain health, safety, and environmental programs, procedures, and guidelines to ensure there is a safe working environment for all employees.
• Organize and perform new hire safety training and periodic employee safety training meetings to ensure employees receive the necessary instruction to perform their duties safely.
• Conduct on-site investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses; prepare reports and make recommendations for procedual changes as necessary.
• Ensure routine safety and environmental inspections are performed and documented; report non-compliance and/or hazardous conditions and recommend remedial action as appropriate.
• Ensure all necessary paperwork is promptly filed with OSHA, EPA, and KDHE.
• Serve as the primary contact for any governmental communications or inspections as it relates to health, safety, and environment.
• In concert with the claims administrator, actively manage open Workers Compensation claims.
• Provide advice and guidance to supervisors and managers regarding HSE issues and assist them in determining safe working practices through risk asessment and effective management systems.
• Organize, update, and control the corporate HSE manuals.
• Inspect, evaluate, and oversee the maintenance and disposal of all hazardous materials stored on company property; periodically monitor usage and make recommendations as appropriate.
• Provide safety performance metrics and detailed accident information to allow tracking and analysis for future improvement.
• Maintain knowledge of current and emerging health, safety, and environmental issues and trends and communicate to management their potential effect on the company.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent is required.
• Five or more years of HSE related experience required, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
• CSP certification is a plus.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental laws and regulations.
• Extensive experience in performing safety and environmental inspections and in conducting accident investigations.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Excellent oral and written communcation skills.
